Surprise. After bemoaning my
recent TTM cold streak this morning, this two-card return slipped through the
Informed Delivery cracks and arrived in the mailbox. Awesome. Plus, it’s my
first return on the Topps 2019 Holiday design.
Bryan Reynolds had a superb
rookie season – a bright spot on a Pittsburgh team that didn’t have many this
year. Promoted to replace the injured Starling Marte on April 20, Reynolds
started his MLB career with an 11-game hitting streak. He did not slow down. He
finished at .314 with 16 home runs, 68 RBI and an .880 OPS over 546 plate
appearances. He also set a new Pirates rookie mark for doubles (37). He
finished fourth in the NL Rookie of the Year race behind Pete Alonso, Mike
Soroka, and Fernando Tatis, Jr.
